Rehabilitation of the Alexandra Park pool and chalet

Rehabilitation of the Alexandra Park pool and chalet

Rehabilitation work on the Alexandra Park pool and clubhouse will begin in spring 2025.

In addition to modernizing the facilities, this major project will meet users' expectations and provide the community with a modern, accessible and user-friendly facility. A project that will undoubtedly have a positive and lasting impact for years to come

Presentation of the project

This project is the result of a consultative process carried out with citizens and users to ensure that their needs are at the heart of the project

You can see or review the citizen meetings held as part of the process.

  • The main elements of the project are outlined below:
  • A completely rebuilt, modern chalet that will offer greater comfort and convenience to visitors, particularly during periods of use by day camps, for which a room will be entirely reserved.
  • A repositioning of the chalet to create an opening onto the park between Regent and Bedford avenues, thus improving accessibility.
  • A deeper, longer pool (25 metres) with swim lanes that meet swimmers' expectations, as well as more space for free swimming.
  • The addition of a slide in the main pool.
  • A new wading pool with a beach entrance.
  • The addition of reduced-mobility access to both pools.
  • Optimization of the site's vegetation, particularly on the area around the main pool, to combat heat islands and minimize impermeable surfaces.

Project cost

This project represents a major investment for the city, estimated at over $6.6 million. This investment will be partially financed by a $2.69 million grant from Component 1 of the Ministère de l'Éducation's Programme d'aide financière aux infrastructures récréatives, sportives et de plein air (PAFIRSPA). The City will cover the remaining costs.

Preliminary schedule

Work began in April 2025 with the demolition of the existing facilities. It will continue uninterrupted until June 2026 so that the facilities can reopen in time for the summer season.

Work area

Work will take place in the area shown in the image below. To ensure safety in the area of the work site, this zone will be completely fenced off. The park, tennis courts and baseball field will remain accessible to the public.

Work zone

Impact on local residents

Demolition work on the existing chalet, pool and beach, as well as excavation work for the new facilities, will bring a large number of heavy vehicles into the area. The preferred traffic routes will be Bedford and Regent avenues, in order to avoid truck back-up manoeuvres as much as possible and to ensure safety in the area.

We are aware that work of this nature will result in increased activity in the close area of the site, with consequent impacts on traffic, noise and the daily lives of residents. However, the city will ensure that any inconvenience is kept to a minimum.
