Starting May 25: Aqueduct network flushing work

Published on 14 May 2026

The Ville de Saint-Lambert wishes to inform residents that flushing of the aqueduct network will begin on May 25 throughout the entire city.

This work will take place over a period of approximately three weeks and will be carried out in the evening or at night. It will not affect water quality; the water remains safe to drink.

Possible inconveniences

When operations are underway in your area, some temporary inconveniences may occur:

  • slight drop in water pressure;
  • presence of particles in the water;
  • slightly discolored water (reddish or cloudy).

What to do if the water is discolored or contains particles?

  • Let the cold water run for about 10 minutes, ideally in the bathtub, since the faucet is generally not equipped with a filter;
  • Wait until the water clears up before doing laundry to avoid staining your clothes;
  • Clean the aerators (filters) on your faucets once the water has returned to normal.

Why is this work being done?

Flushing the system involves using the force of water flowing through the pipes to clean them. The water is then discharged through certain fire hydrants.

This process removes limescale, as well as iron and rust particles accumulated in the pipes, to maintain water quality. It also helps ensure the proper functioning of the system, particularly the valves and fire hydrants.
