Environment

The Environment department is responsible for monitoring and improving the municipality’s environmental performance, and it collaborates in sustainable development planning. Its actions are focused on water resources, residual material, green spaces, sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gases. Its main tasks are to:

  • coordinate implementation of the Sustainable Development Plan and the Tree Policy;
  • draft and develop relevant policies and by-laws;
  • raise awareness of environmental issues among municipal staff and residents;
  • manage landscaping around municipal buildings and in public green spaces as well as urban forestry.

An important aspect of this department's mandate is to raise resident's awareness of the need to preserve our environment. To achieve this end, it uses various means, including publications, a green patrol, grant programs, an information booth at various municipal events, and theme-based activities, as well as the sale of trees, composters, and rainwater barrels.
