Published on 08 Jul 2025
The City Council met on July 7, 2025 for its monthly public meeting. Mayor Pascale Mongrain opened the meeting by speaking on several topics of interest:
- Update on the redevelopment of the parking lot behind Taylor's at 525 Notre-Dame: at Council's request, the 76-unit rental project is being fine-tuned by its developer to ensure better architectural integration.
- Correction of numerous erroneous and misleading information reported in the last two editions of the Saint-Lambert Journal.
- Three-weekly garbage collection: good waste sorting habits help minimize the contents of the garbage; the Environment team can assist citizens who wish to make the change.
- Union/Hickson road repairs: work progressing very well; please exercise caution near the construction site.
- Have a good summer until the next public meeting on August 18, 2025!
The following is a summary of the main issues discussed and orientations adopted.
1. Signing of the collective agreement for school crossing guards
After several months of negotiations, the management and union parties have reached agreement on the terms of the employment contract for school crossing guards for the period 2023-2030. At the municipal council meeting, the new agreement was unanimously ratified by those elected. Nearly fifteen people are covered by this collective agreement, which expired on December 31, 2022.
2. Awarding of a contract for the design, supply and installation of a playground at du Rhône Park
On Monday, city council ratified the awarding of a $200,000 contract for the construction of a playground in du Rhône Park.
Responding to requests from local residents, City teams are currently developing a play concept that respects the park's wooded character. A natural wooden play area will be set up and harmoniously integrated into the vegetation, featuring a swing, slide, small bridge, climbing structure and more.
Work will start this autumn and is expected to take 4 to 6 weeks, depending on weather conditions.
3. Signage modification on Durocher Avenue, between Riverside and Robitaille
At the request of Collège Durocher's management, our traffic experts from the engineering and public works teams took a close look at the clarity of signage in the vicinity of the Collège, on Durocher Avenue between Riverside and Robitaille streets.
In the opinion of several parents and staff members, the multiplication of signs one after the other was confusing the essential information, particularly for the drop-off zones.
On Monday, the municipal council ratified the new signage proposal, which includes two well-defined 15-minute drop-off zones, as well as the addition of a pedestrian crossing that will be supervised by a member of the school team at the entrance and exit to classes.
We take this opportunity to remind you that a drop-off zone is not a parking area. It is a drop-off point only. It is important to respect this principle to encourage vehicle rotation and avoid double-parking, which is prohibited.
The new signs will be installed by Public Works before the start of the new school year.
