Saint-Lambert acquires its first public, self-serve windshield washer fluid filling station
The City of Saint-Lambert is very proud to offer its residents its first public, self-serve windshield washer fluid filling station. This new self-service station is available now in the parking lot at City Hall.
First and foremost, this acquisition addresses an environmental problem. In fact, data from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) indicates that in Québec, an estimated 22 plastic washer-fluid containers are used annually. Of this number, 85% go directly to the dump. By providing a container-free filling option, this service thus helps reduce the amount of waste we generate.
“This worrisome issue was brought to our attention by the Ecocitizens Network. We therefore decided to help reverse the situation by offering Lambertans a more environmentally friendly alternative. This is a perfect example of a collaborative community achievement that meets a local need,” explained Mayor Pierre Brodeur.
It works just like a gas pump: you simply take the nozzle and fill your car’s windshield washer fluid reservoir directly. Users are billed $0.75 a litre for the quantity of product used and can pay with a credit card directly at the station. An online gauge also tells those in charge of fluid quantities of the amount remaining in the station to ensure that it is replenished when needed. For every litre sold, $0.25 will go directly to the municipality's new green fund.
“Very simple to use, the washer-fluid filling station is up and running since this week. The more of us who use it, the better for the environment,” concluded the mayor.
