Low-flush toilet

ToiletThe City of Saint-Lambert is offering financial assistance throughout 2017 to homeowners who replace a standard toilet with a low-flush model (6 litres or less, dual flush or not).

Why replace my toilet?

If you replace your standard toilet with a low-flush model, you’ll be helping to reduce your consumption of potable water:

  • In Quebec, standard toilets consume up to 40% of the potable water used for everyday household activities.
  • A standard toilet uses between 12 and 20 litres per flush, compared to 6 litres for a low-flush toilet.
  • Because they use less water, low-flush toilets help reduce potable water and wastewater treatment costs.

What is this program?

To encourage a reduction in the consumption of potable water on its territory, the City of Saint-Lambert is offering a grant of $75 to homeowners of a residence located in Saint-Lambert who replace a standard toilet with a low-flush model (6 litres or less, dual flush or not).

What are the conditions?

  • The owner of the building must have purchased a low-flush toilet (6 litres or less, dual flush or not) between December 1, 2016 and November 30, 2017.
  • The application for the grant may only be made by the owner of the building.
  • Up to two (2) grant applications per property will be accepted.
  • The toilet purchased must be used to replace a standard toilet. A subsidy will not be granted for the installation of a new toilet.
  • The application must be made by November 30, 2017 at the latest, and the new toilet must be installed before applying.

How to obtain the grant?

To benefit from the subsidy, the owner must:

  1. Provide a photo measuring at least 3' x 5' of each standard toilet (maximum 2) before it is replaced;
  2. Sign and date the back of the photo;
  3. Replace the toilet;

Which toilet should I purchase?

Any low-flush toilet that consumes 6 litres or less per flush, whether dual flush or not, is eligible for this program. Nevertheless, to ensure the efficiency of your new toilet, we recommend you select a toilet that achieves a MaP (Maximum Performance Testing of Popular Toilet Models) score of more than 350. This means that the toilet is able to remove at least 350 grams of waste per flush. The MaP rating is generally found on the tank, or you can find it at www.map-testing.com.

You might also want to note that if the toilet you purchase carries the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense label, it is guaranteed to remove at least 350 grams of waste per flush.
